Rainy Day Workout

So it's been raining almost every day here, and when it rains it POURS! Here's a good workout for a rainy day. It just kicked my butt!
Tabatas are a good way to work out all of the muscles in your body and get some cardio in. There are a bunch of apps for Tabata Timers if you have a smart phone! Just search Tabata Timer and you will have a bunch of options to choose from and they all do the same thing.

Happy Working Out!

Girls on the Run

Today I met with the directors of the Girls on the Run organization in Wilmington. I am so excited and blessed to say that I will be working with them this semester. I will be an assistant coach to middle school girls helping them reach their running goals. Not only will I be a coach, I will also be a role model. I cannot wait to start this new journey with a great organization. I will also be working in the GOTR office at our local YMCA helping with marketing the 5ks and getting sponsorships. I could not be more excited for this semester to start. I am finally combining my number one passion with school. I'm so excited to meet the girls and get this season rolling!

Running on a Budget

I am your typical poor college student. As much as I would like to fill my closet with LuluLemon running gear and all things Nike, there is no way I could afford it. The only thing that I really splurge on is my running shoes. Luckily my parents love and support me so they gave me money to buy a new pair of shoes! I don't know about you, but there is nothing more motivating to me than getting new running gear. Here is how I afford to look cute and still have quality running gear on a college student budget.
The shoes are from Dick's. They are the Nike Lunarglide+ 5 which sell for $110, and this week Dick's has a coupon for $15 off running shoes, so I got a new pair of shoes for about $95. Definitely much cheaper than I had planned on spending. Next I went to TJmaxx to see if they had any good running clothes because they always have good deals. I got this New Balance sports bra that was originally $30 for $15. The running capris are a brand I've never heard of (Marika), but they were half off as well so I figured why not? I spent $30 total at TJmaxx and got some good quality gear! I can't wait to test it out!

I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Just wanted to give a shout out to a couple of my best friends that have been there with me through the ups and downs of my running journey.

First is one of my best friends Kaitlynn. She supported me and gave me advice when I had doubts on my abilities. She was my workout buddy from day one, and would always have new fun workouts for us to do on my cross-training days. Without her I would not be as strong as I am today. She is also one of the strongest people I know and I feel very blessed to call her my friend.

Second, is my bestest friend in the whole wide world Renee. She was my number one cheerleader throughout my training for my first half-marathon. She listened to all of my bitching and complaining and was just always there for me. I would not be who I am today without her in my life. I am so excited to run the Color me Rad 5k with her in October!

Last but not least is Jen. Jen trained with me for the princess half marathon from beginning to end even though she was not running it with me. She kept me motivated and even dragged my lazy ass out of bed to go running on a few occasions. I can honestly say I would not have finished the race if it were not for Jen. I do not know how to thank her enough, but I am very excited to say that she is going to Disney and running the Wine and Dine Half with me! I think we are more excited than most little kids to go to Disney World. November cannot come soon enough!

I love you guys so much and just wanted to say from the bottom of my heart, Thank you.

Love,
Court

Disney Princess Half Marathon

As I prepare for my second Disney Half Marathon,  I can't help but think back on the memories that the first  one brought me. First of all I just casually mentioned to my mom that I would love to run the Disney Princess Half, I never thought she would take it seriously. 2 months after mentioning it I had successfully suckered my mom and uncle into registering for the race with me (Princes are allowed too). Now comes the hard part training... the farthest I had ran during a training run before the race was 9 miles. Needless to say I was very nervous. I honestly did not think I could get through 13.1 miles alive. 2 hours and 40 minutes later I was crossing the finishing line with a HUGE smile on my face. I have to thank the magic of Disney for getting me through the race. It was a slow one, but I finished and that is all that matters!

About Me

My name is Courtney Moore and I am a senior at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. In the past 2 years I have become very passionate about running, and it is now a normal part of my lifestyle. I cannot imagine my life without running, I would go insane if I could no longer run. I love inspiring other people to run and lead healthy lifestyles. So far I have ran a 5k turkey trot, a frosty 5-miler, and my favorite: The Disney Princess Half Marathon. This coming year so far I have The Color Me Rad 5k planned in October and The Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon in November. Oh and after each race I treat myself to a cupcake, hence the name Running for Cupcakes :)
